What makes are our projects different?

  • Anybody with an interest in health-related volunteering is welcome in our current project locations. We mean Anybody. Our placement rate is 100%!
  • Our programs have NO application/registration fees. HealthCare Volunteer will not charge you any fees for placing you in one of our volunteering programs; we'll never ask you for your credit card or a check in order to volunteer with us; we don't make any profit or markup any of your costs in placing you with a project below.
  • We don't make you fundraise prior to volunteering with us or donate any money to us or any other organization in order to volunteer with us. However, if you want to use your profile to raise funds for your trip, we'll help you with that for free.
  • You decide the dates you want to volunteer - all dates are available.
  • You go for as long or as short as you wish; if you change your plans mid-way through your volunteer trip, that's no problem at all. . .We call it flexibility.
  • Our volunteers come from all over the world, so you'll occasionally get to volunteer with a team of international volunteers.
  • HealthCare Volunteer is comprised entirely of volunteers, therefore you can be assured that they are motivated by the best of intentions.
  • Often we partner directly with Ministry of Health's in the countries below to provide you with a safe and legal volunteering experience that the local government has approved.

2. Next, Print/Fill out the Paper form (PDF or DOC) and mail it to us with supporting documents.
3. Upon receipt of your materials, we will process your application, obtain necessary work permits and deploy you to your volunteering site. Filling out the volunteering form is not a guarantee of placement, but we do try to accommodate as many volunteers as possible during the times you request. To date we have placed 100% of our applicants. Please remember you will have to pay your own visa, temporary licensure or other governmental fees necessary. In the mean time, please gain the latest recommended immunizations and anti-malaria medication if you are volunteering in a malaria-risk zone.

However, if you are a trained physician or dentist, you will be responsible for the cost to get temporary licensure in the location you wish to volunteer as many countries charge temporary licensure fees/visa fees. Furthermore, you will be responsible for airfare, and unless otherwise indiciated, your housing, food, transportation, etc. We can use people of all backgrounds in our projects. Teams are encouraged to apply. In addition, most of the time we are able to place you in the location of your choice during the specific dates you desire. Students and untrained volunteers are encouraged to apply. Medical/Dental/Nursing/Pharmacy/Other Health Professional students who have entered their clinical years of training may be able to provide clinical volunteer services in select locations. In most cases, untrained volunteers will be allowed to help with logistics, supplies support, ancilliary clinical support and community/village education programs. APPLY NOW | Specific dates are available upon request when filling out online application. Students welcome on all trips.

Further Information For Medical / Dental / Nursing / Pharmacy Students:
Our programs are designed so that long-term physician, dentist, nurse and pharmacist volunteers at the following locations will in certain cases agree to have students within their profession rotate through their clinic under their supervision for 1-4 week periods. Dental students can fulfill their 1-year elective in certain cases and Medical students can complete Medical Electives under this program.

Read the program site details to learn more about the details for your trip. However, below are some general guidelines that apply to all programs. The application process has a rolling deadline. HealthCare Volunteer accepts the first qualified applicants. Therefore, apply as soon as possible since programs may fill quickly. Please apply at least five weeks before the program starts, if possible. We are flexible though, and can some times place volunteers with less than 1 week notice. HealthCare Volunteer generally arranges for accommodations in hospital dormitories, guest houses, or local hotels. People from any country are encouraged to apply. HealthCare Volunteer’s members come from countries throughout the world, including the United States, Canada, England, India, France, Germany, Nigeria, Cameroon, and the Netherlands. Volunteers typically work ~40 hours/week with weekends off to enjoy the cultural events in the community in which they work. Individual schedules may vary. English is generally sufficient but individual requirements may vary. For example, in Ecuador all volunteers must be able to speak Spanish as very few patients/local health staff members can speak English. In Tanzania, basic Swahili is recommended but not required. Volunteers are suggested to pick up a basic, introductory text in Swahili. In Brazil, Portuguese fluency is helpful but not required. Keep in mind that those in rural villages with little access to education and health care will usually speak only local languages.
